TITLE OF THE THINKING
ROUTINE: 1-2-3 Bridge
|
EXPLANATION:
This routine asks students
to uncover their initial thoughts, ideas, questions and understandings about in
particular about the eclipses topic. After watching a video they are going to
connect their previous knowledge to new thinking about the topic after they
have received some instruction. The students are going to prove if their
previous thoughts about the topic where right or wrong, and there are going
to connect their previous thinking and “build a bridge” with their new ideas.

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO USE IT?
The teacher is going to
introduce the 1-2-3 methodology. At the beginning the students are going to
write by their own: 3 thoughts, 2 questions and 1 analogies. Then they are
going to share their ideas in small groups of three students, they are going
to see the others students ideas about the elements (planet, sun, satellites)
that involved in an eclipse.
After watching the solar
eclipse and the lunar eclipse video, they are going to write down their new
ideas about the topic.
At this point there are
going to share with the other students (groups of three) their previous ideas
and how they are connected with the new ones. It’s important to take into
account that it’s important to answer the questions and reasoning process
connecting previous and new ideas.
When this is already
finished in the small group we can do the same with the group class.
It’s important to be very
respectful with the ideas of their partners and the role of the teacher is to
help the students to feel confident in their learning process (there’s no
good or wrong in their previous thoughts about the eclipse).
